| About me | About Sherry Comes, our President and Founder: Sherry Comes has been a professional information technology (IT) consultant and entrepreneur since she graduated from college in 1987. She currently holds the position of Chief Technology Officer for Complex System Integration at IBM. In this position, Sherry delivers innovative solutions to clients that help them to utilize technology more effectively in their businesses. This role would be more than enough for most people to manage, however, Sherry is also the President and Founder of CoffeeCakes.com, a company which she created fourteen years ago. CoffeeCakes.com is a woman-owned specialty food and gourmet gift Internet retailer that has enjoyed year-after-year growth. In 1995, when Sherry started CoffeeCakes.com, the huge potential of selling and marketing on the Internet was still to be fully discovered. However, at the time, Sherry took the brave step of creating a company whose products were marketed exclusively on the Internet. CoffeeCakes.com employs a “no questions asked” return policy for its customers. Sherry gives her customer service team the necessary autonomy to respond to customer issues as they deem appropriate. This sense of ownership has reaped dividends for CoffeeCakes.com as the company has consistently received a “Five Star Top Service Rating” from its customers every year since 1995 for excellence in quality and customer service. In the information technology arena, Sherry has come to be recognized as a thought leader with 20 plus years of professional consulting under her belt. Sherry has built her stellar reputation on solving complex business problems using state-of-the-art technologies and best practices. She was a lead inventor for a patent-pending innovation for SEC Compliant Solutions that gave IBM an edge in customer service. In 2007, IBM showed its appreciation of her incredible talents by awarding her the title of “Distinguished Engineer” for her technical contributions and leadership. (Less than 1% of employees at IBM have received this prestigious status.) Sherry was also the “Master Inventor” of an innovative and patented system developed for American Express to categorize, archive, retrieve and store electronic communication (see Patent - method and system for electronic archival and retrieval of electronic communications). As well as being able to store electronic communication by industry category, the system stores electronic communication in adherence to Federal and other regulatory requirements. Access to this third party “digital safe” is possible through a secure network connection such as an intranet web interface or intranet browser connection. The “digital safe” concept created by Sherry is still being used by many financial services companies throughout the world. When it comes to giving back to the community, Sherry is energetic and passionate. When her son was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis (NF) two years ago, Sherry chose to take action. She decided to donate a portion of CoffeeCakes.com’s profits to helping those with NF. She also volunteers her time to an organization called NF Inc., a body that supports families with the disease and raises money for research in the hope of finding a cure. Her company, CoffeeCakes.com also supports cancer research and other local fund-raisers and non-profit organizations. In 2008, Sherry won The Denver Business Journal’s “Outstanding Women in Business” Award in the small business/Jean Yancey category. |
